The Octoberfest is a noble tradition in category theory: a low-key, friendly conference for researchers to share their work and thoughts. This year it’s on Saturday October 26th and Sunday October 27th.

Hi John, it looks like a lovely conference and your keynote talk sounds very interesting indeed (Joe had spoken to me about some of the results and I’d love to hear more). However, I think that I and many others will not be able to attend given that the conference is scheduled over a weekend. Do you know what the reasoning was for scheduling a conference on those days (I realize you’re not the organizer)? Weekend conferences are not accessible for anyone who has caring responsibilities outside of work and they can end up being exclusionary.
